Bonkus Black Italic

Designed by Matthijs Herzberg, Bonkus is a display sans and sans serif font family. This typeface has thirteen styles and was published by Herzberg Design.

Bonkus is a geometric sans-serif typeface with a funky touch, inspired by similar “bent tube” typefaces from the 1970’s such as ITC Bauhaus, Blippo and Ronda. Bonkus retains their pleasant personality while being more balanced and versatile. Equipped with 6 strongly contrasting weights, each with an optically adjusted italic counterpart, Bonkus can perform well in a wide variety of settings.

The thin and black weights are particularly adept for display, and respond well to extra-tight tracking. The in-between weights are just as great for display, but can also handle their own at smaller sizes, for sub headers and even short texts.

Bonkus provides all necessary punctuation marks and symbols (including a tasteful manicule), as well as a vast array of OpenType features. Three powerful stylistic sets can drastically alter Bonkus’ aesthetic, and 52 Discretionary ligatures provide room to get weird. Not only that: each stylistic set comes with unique ligatures, and even the Cyrillic is provided with its own set of ligatures.

Tabular and proportional figures, subscript and superscript, fractions, an optional slashed zero, and lining punctuation provide everything you need for beautiful typesetting. Latin A-Extended and Basic Cyrillic language support are provided.

Currently in version 2.0, which has completely redone spacing, 4 times the kerning pairs, as well as countless other minor fixes and additions. Future updates are expected, which will include a well functioning variable OTF, among other additions and improvements.
To help you use Bonkus to its maximum potential, a PDF guide for best practices is included with your download.
