Dr Slab delivers extraordinary impact and visual boldness, making it a perfect 3D serif font family for posters, logos, and all kinds of display typography.
While the concept isn’t new, it draws inspiration from a rich typographic tradition:
Layered or “stacking” type systems have been used since before the wood type era, with colored woodcuts, engraved prints, and early printing presses applying multiple plates to create vivid, multi-color compositions.
Dr Slab brings this technique into the digital age, using layerable font styles to build compelling 3D effects.
To use it effectively, work with Photoshop, Illustrator, or any graphic design app that supports layers—treating each font style as if it were a printing plate. You can assign different colors to each layer, just like traditional multi-pass printing.
The “Base” style is the foundation of the system. You can enhance it using additional styles like Rim, Shadow, and Ext to create rich dimensional effects.

Instruction
1. Type your text as you like.
2. Set font-name “Dr Slab” and font-style “Base”
3. Set color for “Base”.
4. Duplicate the layer which includes “Base” text.
5. Set font-style and color for new layers.
6. Stacked layers in different font-style and color make the text in 3D.
