Humber

Humber is a rational sans-serif typeface that features a large X-height for clarity at both text and display sizes and subtle features that shine at larger sizes.

Inspired by 20th-century typefaces and modern European designs, Humber draws further inspiration from the river and the bridge that spans it. Like its namesake, Humber aims to embody the modernist design principles of function, effectiveness, and practicality and at the same time have a form that reveals more detail upon closer examination.

For instance, both the lowercase r and f feature a flattened arch that looks to create forward momentum into the next glyph – a detail that shines at larger display sizes. Similar flourishes can be seen in the lowercase t and uppercase R, where sharp corners are eliminated in favour of flat edges.

Humber offers seven weights, matching italics, discretionary ligatures, lining, old-style, and tabular figures. Containing conditional kerning for accented characters and over 738 glyphs, Humber supports over 339 Latin-based languages, making it truly versatile.
