Petermann

Petermann: a modern sans serif with friendly, open oval shapes.

The font family includes weights from Hairline to Extra Black, widths from Condensed to Expanded, as upright and true italics. The “normal” version of Petermann is noticeably narrower than usual fonts. The forms are very functionally shaped.

The ”round“ letters emphasize the condensed open oval; the light counter forms provide the rhythm of the typeface, causing the typeface to appear gentle and pleasing. The ”modern“ design of a and g being especially contributive here.

Contrary to the classical sans serifs, a few letters were given light echoes of serifs which promote fluency.

Petermann offers numerous OpenType features and style sets. For example, small caps, fractions, circled numbers, historical long s and uppercase “german double S” are included.

There are alternative designs for several letters, to give the typeface a completely different overall impression. Numerous ligatures also enrich the possibilities of Petermann.
